This module provides Bar students with a structured understanding of criminal litigation, based on Blackstone’s Criminal Practice. It covers key stages from charge to trial, including disclosure, hearsay, bad character, and the burden of proof. Students develop essential skills to navigate criminal cases effectively and prepare for practice in criminal law.


This module trains students to draft clear, structured, and persuasive legal documents, including pleadings, applications, and statements of case. Emphasizing precision, legal accuracy, and strategic argument, it develops the drafting skills expected of barristers in practice. Practical exercises reinforce learning and build confidence in producing professional, effective legal writing.


Designed for aspiring barristers, this module develops essential advocacy skills for both criminal and civil proceedings. Through practical exercises in examination-in-chief, cross-examination, submissions, and mitigation, students build confidence and competence. Realistic courtroom simulations enhance their ability to present cases with clarity, and precision, preparing them for effective advocacy in practice.
